Abstract

An apparatus for the continuous steam treatment of a tape or tow of synthetic textile fibres which is attachable to the outlet from a polymer spinning device comprising a tunnel-like treatment chamber (16) in which the material being treated is advanced and at least one heating chamber (19-21) surrounding the treatment chamber (16), the heating chamber being fed with pressurised steam to heat the material being treated by heat exchange through the walls of the treatment chamber (16) and by the controlled passage of steam from one chamber (16, 19, 21) to the other.
