Abstract
A rope consists of at least one layer (ply) of strands (10), each strand of which is enveloped in its own protective sheath (20) made of rubber material or plastic. The protective sheaths are so formed (sides 16, 17, 18) that the protective sheaths of adjacent strands assume an essentially fixed relative spatial position in relation to one another within the rope. This reduces the forces of the strands relative to one another, so that the rope lifetime is increased and a dimensionally stable rope is also obtained.
