Abstract

The mechanism of a power assisted steering system is enclosed in a cylindrical housing (10). A pinion (12) engages a rack (11) which is guided by pins which engage a slot (114), with the pins forming connections to the steering linkage. Each end of the rack is connected by a rod (40) to a rolling diaphragm piston (30a,30b). The edge of the diaphragm is clamped to the housing by a cup-shaped end cap (20a,20b) and a ring nut (23). The end caps have connections for the supply of hydraulic fluid (22a,22b).
