Abstract

A solar absorber unit for use in roofing, and capable of heating a heat-transfer fluid comprises a member 1 of, e.g. glass which is transparent or translucent to solar radiation, a surface 10 or area for absorbing radiation located below the member 1, and a sealed area 2 for the circulation or stagnation of the heat-transfer fluid. A sealed connection is provided between the members 1 of adjacent absorbers, to provide a sealed roof formed by a plurality of similar absorbers and sealed intercommunication is provided by pipes 8 between the sealed areas 2 of adjacent absorbers to allow circulation of the fluid from one sealed area to the other. Each absorber comprises a metal sheet 11, painted black on its upper surface, and having lugs 4 for supporting members 1, and lugs 3 for attachment to beams 7. Bent metal sheets 12 are welded to the sheets 11 to form the sealed areas.
