Abstract

In a process for converting coal to coke, the hot coke is dry cooled with a flue gas which reacts to lean gas during the said dry cooling of the hot coke or with a blast furnace gas which is inert to the hot coke and the heated lean gas or the heated blast furnace gas produced thereby is used to pre-heat the coal before it is converted to coke. Two alternative forms of plants are disclosed for carrying out the process.
