Abstract
Procedimiento y aparato para reducir material particulado de óxido de hierro a hierro fundido con un reductos sólido, caracterizándose el procedimiento porque comprende las etapas de: (a) alimentar continuamente óxido de hierro particulado y combustible carbonáceo particulado solido a una entrada de partículas existente en la parte superior de un horno de cuba, para establecer una carga empacada en el mismo; (b) pasar una corriente eléctrica a través de la carga para proporcionar suficiente calor para reaccionar el combustible carbonáceo con el oxígeno del óxido de hierro particulado, para reducir el óxido de hierro sustancialmente a hierro metálico, fundir el hierro y formar un depósito de hierro fundido, © causar el movimiento de los productos de reacción a través de la carga en contracorriente con la misma y formar un gas de cabeza (d) separar el gas de cabeza de la región superior del horno de cuba, (e) enfriar dicho gas de cabeza (f) precalentar el gas de cabeza enfriado (g) re circular el gas calentado hasta la carga a través de una entrada de gases existente en la región inferior del horno por encima del depósito de metal fundido y (h) separar el producto de hierro fundido y la escoria por una salida en el fondo de dicho horno.
