Abstract

In e.g. a teleprinter system, all Arabic-Farsi characters, arithmetic signs, numerals, punctuation marks and diacritical marks are coded, and each character code is classified in one of three groups of characters. Each group has an identification code which is inserted into a succession of character codes. Encoding and decoding of each character takes into account the preceding and following characters, and successive characters may be displayed in the same position to build up a character.
