Abstract
A process for the preparation of a pyrrolidone compound of the formula: ** (Formula) ** and the C5 epimer thereof, where: Q is -COOR'', tetrazol-5-yl or -CONHR "; W is a single bond or a double bond with a cis configuration; Z is a single bond or a double bond with a trans configuration; M is H/"'' OH or HO /"'' H; R is alpha-thienyl, phenyl, monosubstituted phenoxy or monosubstituted phenoxy, in which the substituent is chlorine, fluorine, phenyl, methoxy trifluomethyl or alkyl having one to three carbon atoms; R'' is hydrogen, alkyl having one to five carbon atoms, phenyl or p- biphenyl; R "is -COR''" or -SO2R'' ", where R"'' is phenyl or alkyl having one to five carbon atoms; and the alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, and ammonium salts of those compounds in which Q is a carboxylate or tetrazol-5-yl group.
