Abstract
A process for preparing a fire retardant, chlorine-containing, aliphatic polymer composition, especially a thermoplastic polymer, a multiple mixture with another polymer, and more especially a homo or copolymer of vinyl chloride or a chlorinated polyolefin, characterized in that it combines under heat treatment a homopolymer or copolymer, which contains at least 5% chlorine in its composition, preferably more than 20% and especially more than 40% chlorine, with proportions preferably comprised between a) 0.1 to 150 parts of a phosphoric acid ester or 1 to 150 parts of an aromatic carboxylate, sulfonate or carbonate ester or mixtures thereof, and b) 1 to 50 parts of a compound of the formula IR (CH2X) n (I) where, R represents a aromatic hydrocarbon or radical containing heterocycle n is an integer with a value of at least 2 and data X has the same or different meaning and represents a part group, acidic or basic, per 100 parts of the pol dimerized, preferably maintaining a weight ratio of component a) to b) in the combination, between 20: 1 and 0.1: 1.
