Abstract
Improvements in a process for preparing a polymer of a vinyl halide, which consists in polymerizing in bulk, in one or more stages, a monomeric vinyl halide, in liquid phase, alone or in combination with up to about 50% by weight of another ethylenically unsaturated monomer, copolymerizable therewith, in the initial presence of more than about 1.8% by weight, calculated on said monomeric vinyl halide, of a polyolefin or of a mixture of polyolefins with a weight average molecular weight of about of at least 50,000, consisting of removing from the polymerization mass during the thick paste state thereof, about 2% to less than about 50% by weight of the vinyl halide charged in the polymerization mass, the concentration being effective of said polyolefin or polyolefin mixture after removal of the vinyl halide greater than about 3.5% by weight, calculated on the vinyl halide remaining in said polymerization after the separation of the vinyl halide, which results in a finely divided particle with high impact resistance.
