Abstract
A procedure for the preparation of new benzodiazepines of the first formula: **(See formula)** where X is Cl, Br, NO2 or CF3; Y is H, Cl, Br or F; Z = H, hydrocarbyl from 1 to 4 carbons, -CH2CF3, -CONHR, -CH2CH2NR2, or -CH2CH2NR2A, where R = alkyl from 1 to 4 carbons, and A is a pharmaceutically suitable acid; B = 0; or B and Z together = = N-N = C (R) - where R'= H or C1-C4 alkyl; whose procedure consists of: A) reacting a compound of the second formula: **(See formula)** with a compound of the third formula: **(See formula)** under substantially anhydrous conditions at a temperature of about -80 to + 10ºC, and B) when in the first formula, Z is other than H and B is 0, form a sodium salt of a compound of formula: **(See formula)** where X and Y are as defined above, and renting said sodium salt with a suitable alkylating agent.
