Abstract
A procedure for obtaining chromone-2-carboxylic acids of formula I **(See formula)** wherein R5, R6, R7 and R8, which may be the same or different, are each hydrogen, hydroxy or alcohol, and their pharmaceutically acceptable derivatives, which comprises cyclizing a compound of formula II, **(See formula)** where R5, R6, R7, and R8 are as defined above, R represents a -COOH group or a hydrolyzable group to form it, and Hal represents a halogen atom, and if desired or necessary, hydrolyze the resulting compound to obtain a compound of formula I and/or convert the compound of formula I into one of its pharmaceutically acceptable derivatives.
