Abstract
Procedure for preparing benzofuranone derivatives of formula I **(See formula)** wherein R1 is alkyl of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 8 carbon atoms, or phenyl; R2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, and is halogen, nitro, lower alkyl, methylthio, hydroxy, lower alkoxy, acyloxy or acylamino, provided that R2 cannot signify hydrogen when R3 is in the 5-position, and when R1 and R3 signify a linear alkyl chain of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and are identical, characterized in that compounds of formula II are lactonized, **(See formula)** where R1, R2 and R3 have the previously indicated meanings.
