Abstract
A method of restoring worn or damaged motor shafts, especially marine drive shafts, or other components, by applying wire to the damaged area and melting the wire to the shaft by welding, characterized by the operations of (a) cleaning the shaft area or the like which has to be restored; (b) applying a wire of a metal compatible with the shaft metal by winding using a controlled feed and pass; (c) subject the area located at the junction of the wire with the shaft to the action of heat, as the winding progresses, to weld or melt the wire to the adjacent turns and to the shaft, and (d) to machine the deposit afterwards weld thus formed, to give a finished surface.
