Abstract
Process for preparing solid, unfoamed compositions of urea-urethane copolymers containing silica; characterized in that it comprises forming an oil and water emulsion wherein the water phase comprises an aqueous solution of alkali metal silicate and the oil phase comprises a mixture of an organic polyisocyanate and an isocyanate-reactive organic polyol of at least 400 molecular weight, wherein the nco: oh ratio is greater than 1, or the reaction product of an excess of an organic polyisocyanate with said organic polyol, whereby the reaction takes place between the nco groups and the water at the oil/water interface and the evolution of carbon dioxide is prevented by reaction with the silicate, with the consequent formation of silica.
