Abstract

A continuous method of forming a sheet material consisting of a metal whose main constituent in ionic form is present in at least two valences, said sheet being attached or not to a substrate layer, by means of a selective chemical attack, with the help of of a chemical etching liquid comprising the main constituent of the metal in ionic form in the highest oxidation state, the chemical etching liquid being continuously regenerated by reoxidation of the reduced ion, and keeping the concentration of said ion constant by means of addition of water, characterized in that, to chemically attack an alloy continuously and reproducibly, the alloy component or components are added ionically to the etching liquid at the beginning of the method, in a concentration ratio, with respect to the main constituent, which is equal to the corresponding atomic ratio in the alloy.
