Improvements in an automatic apparatus for the assembly and welding of a set of parts, such as the bodies of motor vehicles, characterized by comprising: a) a vertical welding press (30) equipped with first and second vertically movable platforms (308, 309) and, at least, two lateral clamps (341, 342) for the relative positioning of the component parts of an assembly inside the press (307), b) means (10) for transporting a set of parts (12) in position between the two platforms (308, 309) of the welding press (30), c) means in said mobile platforms (308, 309) and in the mentioned lateral clamps (341, 342) to comprise fixing screws and mobile welding clamps with respect to them, d) a drive device (307) for said movable platforms (308, 309) and for the jaws (341, 342), operable to produce a relative approach or separation of said two platforms and the relative approach or separation of said two jaws, so that said fastening screws and said welding clips are mobile to penetrate through openings, at least from the upper part, to reach the assembly (12) to be welded, e) positioning means for moving the parts of the assembly to predetermined relative positions, and f) means for driving the fastening screws and welding clips to carry out the welding of the parts of the assembly in said predetermined relative positions.
