Abstract
A process for preparing urethanes comprising reacting an organic compound containing at least one hydroxyl group with carbon monoxide and a nitrogenous organic compound at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of a catalyst, characterized in that the catalyst is selenium, sulfur, a selenium compound, a sulfur compound or a mixture thereof and at least one base or water.
