Abstract
An electrical apparatus using fluid refrigerant for a rotating member about an axis of rotation, said apparatus comprising means for evacuating the refrigerant from the rotating member, said means confining the refrigerant to follow a path along the axis of rotation for a distance in which excludes radial paths of the refrigerant flow and radially displaced paths of the refrigerant flow to eliminate convection currents, and wherein said cooled member is supported within a substantially cylindrical support sleeve and said means for evacuating the refrigerant are axially adjacent to said refrigerated member and within said sleeve; said means for evacuating refrigerant comprise a tube along the axis to transport the refrigerant inside, said tube being spaced from said support sleeve by means of a volume in which the vacuum has been made, and a set of members thermally conductors extending between said tube and said sleeve through said volume in which the vacuum has been made at axially spaced intervals.
