Abstract
Method for the production of increased gloss cellulosic pulp from a lignocellulosic material eg, sugarcane bagasse, kernel-free, at increased pulp yield comprising digesting the material with an aqueous solution including a hydroxide of alkali metal for example in the amount of about 3.5 to about 4.5 percent by weight, characterized in that the solution has a pH of about 8.5 to about 11.5, preferably about 10.0, and consisting essentially water, from about 6 to about 7 percent by weight of alkali metal bisulfite, from about 1 to about 1.5 percent by weight of alkali metal carbonate and the alkali metal hydroxide, the percentages by weight being expressed as the corresponding alkali metal oxide, and the alkali metal being preferably sodium.
