Abstract

Procedure for the preparation of new iodomethanesulfonamides easily soluble in water capable of being used as shadow-supplying components in X-ray contrast agents, of the general formula I **(See formula)** wherein R preferably stands for hydrogen or also the methyl group and stands for the group β-hydroxyethyl, β- (β'-hydroxyethoxy) -ethyl, β, γ -dihydroxypropyl, or α, γ -dihydroxyisopropyl, characterized in that react a reactive iodomethanesulfonic acid derivative of the general formula: I-CH2-SO2-x with a reactive compound of the formula Y-R1' where X and Y are reactive radicals that form the group **(See formula)** and one of the symbols X and Y represents a halogen, chlorine, bromine or iodine radical, or an alcohol-sulfonyloxy- or arylsulfonyloxy radical and the other represents a group (see formula), in which R means hydrogen or methyl R'1 means the group β-hydroxyethyl, β- (β-hydroxyethoxy) -ethyl, β, γ -dihydroxypropyl, or α, γ -dihydroxyisopropyl, and may be masked hydroxyl functions by means of protecting groups, which can be easily separated by careful hydrolysis or hydrogenolysis, and by isolating the desired water-soluble iodomethanesulfonic acid amide, if necessary with release of the protected hydroxyl functions during main reaction by hydrolysis or selective hydrogenolysis.
