Abstract
Improvements to a heat exchanger having a liquid cooling medium for cooling air or other gases, particularly intended for the cooling of sweep air in large diesel engines, for example, diesel engines on ships, and which includes a plurality of sections of cooling comprising each a plurality of tubes with liquid-conducting fins which, at their ends, are mounted on tube plates, said cooling sections being replaceably mounted in a housing through which air or gases are made to flow, for example, by means of an impeller fan driven by a turbine driven by the exhaust gases, and because the cooling sections are provided at each end with a cover for the water that, together with the tube plates, forms boxes collectors for the tubes with fins and which are each provided with a central opening that forms an inlet or outlet for each section n, the cooling sections being connected, through said openings, to a manifold for the supply and discharge of the liquid cooling medium, characterized in that the cooling sections at one end of them are hermetically and separably mounted in an air cap, the openings of the water cover being arranged in projections in the water covers, said projections extending through openings in the air cover which is hermetically and removably mounted in an opening in the housing, and because the projections of the water caps at opposite ends of the cooling sections project through openings in a removable and hermetically mounted air cap in an opening located opposite to the first mentioned opening in the housing, the projections being hermetically adjusted against the aforementioned openings in the air cover and s being axially movable in them, said cooling sections being connected in pairs by means of tubes bent 180º at their axially movable ends and being connected to the manifold by their first ends.
