Abstract
A process for the preparation of alkaloids of the eburnamine type of the general formula (I) **(See formula)** or the salts of these compounds, where R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy group, R2 represents a carboxy group or a C1-6 alkoxycarbonyl group, and R3 represents a hydroxy group or an alkoxy group in which apovincamine is reacted to) with an alkali metal alcoholate, or b) with an alkali metal permanganate, in order to saturate the double bond at position Δ 16,17 of apovincamine, and if desired, the obtained compound is separated, optionally converted into their acid addition salts or quaternary salts and, if desired, the salts are converted to free bases or other salts.
