Procedure for the preparation of isoindolinone dyes of the formula **(See formula)** in which R signifies an aromatic radical; R1 means a hydrogen or chlorine atom, an alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxyalkoxy, or C 1-4 alkoxyalkoxy group or a phenoxy, fenalkoxy, fenalkoxyalkoxy or phenoxyalkoxy group; and the X signify halogen atoms, characterized in that it is reacted in the presence of inert organic solvents, at temperatures between 20º and 200ºC and in the molar ratio of 1: 2, an azo compound of the formula **(See formula)** in which R and R1 have the meaning already explained, with a 4, 5,6,7-tetrahalogen-isoindolinone-1 that in position 3 contains easy to change substituents, which depending on the type or number require two bonds and are more mobile than the oxygen in position 1.
