Abstract
A stop motion comprises a drop wire 26 which can move about either of two mutually perpendicular axes (at right angles or parallel to shaft 74), and upon such movement close a circuit between two bus bars 14, 16. The bus bars 14, 16 are mounted on a elongate support 10 which also carries the switch housing for the drop wire. As shown, if the yarn breaks drop wire 26 will rotate shaft 74 about its longitudinal axis and provide electrical connection between contacts 78 and 40. The latter are connected to bus bars 14 (via contacts 48 and 60) and 16 (via part 42) respectively. If fibre build-up on the drop wire causes it to move in the direction of the yarn, shaft 74 will pivot on the switch housing and part 72 of the shaft will lift contact 48 so as to engage its lower end 52 with the edge of the hole in contact 40. In alternative embodiments the drop wire may rotate about shaft 74 to close the circuit as in the above embodiment, but upon movement in the direction of the yarn the whole switch housing 34 tips away from the bus bars. This tipping movement enables (a) two contacts (90, 98, Fig. 5a) to connect the bus bars or (b) permits an external extension (116, Fig. 7a) of the contact connected to the bus bar 16 to bear against the upper bus bar 14, or (c) permits a resilient contact (122, Fig. 8a) to spring against the two bus bars.
