Abstract
A casting mould has a cope la and a drag 1b with mould cavities 2, 3. Runners 4 are provided at the parting plane of the mould and lead to vertical gates 5. Molten metal is fed to the gates from funnel-shaped channels 7 which in turn connect with pouring basins 9 (see Fig. 2). The channels 7 do not extend below the highest point of the mould cavities. During pouring the channels 7 act as metal reservoirs. After pouring the molten metal should be at the level of the top of gates 5 and none should remain in the channels 7. In a modification, the mould has two cavities of different heights.
