Abstract

A method of controlling the frequency of a sinewave oscillator 6 by means of a higher frequency oscillator 3 comprises: sensing the attainment of a peak value of a parameter of the oscillation of oscillator 6 clamping the, parameter at this peak value to temporarily inhibit oscillation and releasing the clamp when the oscillator 3 next reaches a datum in its oscillation cycle. As described, the peak value of the current through inductor 8 is sensed by detecting the corresponding passage through zero of the voltage across capacitor 7. When this zero crossing occurs, trigger circuit 10, 11 switches to produce an output pulse which turns on transistor 18 via transistor 12. Transistor 18 then feeds to inductor 8 a current which is equal to the peak value of the oscillatory current. The high-frequency oscillator 3 provides a train of pulses, and the arrival of the next pulse in this train turn on transistor 19 to switch off transistor 18 and allow the oscillator 6 to recommence oscillation.
