Abstract

A trough-shaped header cover 10, Fig. 2, for a heat exchanger of the type wherein a bundle of parallel tubes extend between two header chambers incorporates a nozzle 11 through which heat exchange fluid, e.g. water, is supplied and a chamber 14 housing a valve for regulating the flow of fluid. A protuberant rib forms a valve seat 12 around a fluid communicating port in the bottom 13 of the chamber 14 and a mounting 16 is adapted to receive a conventional valve assembly 17 which co-operates with the seat 12. The cover, seat and nozzle, may be a unitary moulding, either of a synthetic plastics material or of a light alloy. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5 the cover 22, which may be of brass, has a frusto-conical shaped valve seat 23. A sleeve 30 welded to the cover 22 forms a housing 29 for the valve assembly.
