Abstract

A cabinet 6 for a plurality of interchangeable electrical units is provided with vertical bus-bars 5 mounted towards the rear of the cabinet between spaced supports 9 which each carry at least one pin 21, 21a for each device to be mounted, the pins being directed towards the front of the cabinet to receive units slid on to them. Each unit has a U-shaped metal frame 34 whose base carries clip contacts 20 engaging the bus-bars 5 and whose sides 34a, 34b carry respectively a door 33 and cable terminals 57, 58. Tubes 35 are mounted on the frame to cooperate with the pins 21, 21a and captive nuts 38 screw on to the ends of the pins to lock the device in place. The frame carries, for example, a switch 61, a contactor 62 and an overload relay 63. The switch 61 is operated by a shaft 68 cooperating with a knob 67 on the door 33 in such a way that the knob can only be engaged or disengaged with shaft 68 and therefore door 33 opened and shut when the switch is off. The door 33 is the full width of cabinet 6 and cooperates with tubular seals 48 attached to flanges 47 a lock 49 holds the door closed. Each cabinet contains 6 contacts several units of varying height which are separated by horizontal plates (29) (Fig. 1, not shown) slid into the cabinet. Several cabinets may be placed side by side and fed by horizontal busbars at the top.
