Abstract

A pair of curved axis, nonrotating bars 45, 51 are used for transversely separating parallel webs longitudinally slit from a single web W. The first bar 45 causes the webs to diverge, and the second bar 51 causes the webs to run spaced and parallel. The bars may be adjusted in the direction of the arrows 70 to 75 to vary the separation of the webs. In a modification (Fig. 5) the bars are tubular and perforated, and air above atmospheric pressure is supplied thereto to cause air bearings at the surfaces thereof. In (Fig. 4) the bars may be either a continuous flexible strip or a plurality of individual segments. At evenly spaced intervals along the bars, a plurality of adjustment devices (65) provide bearing to any desirable degree. The bars are utilized in web-slitting and rewind apparatus (Figs. 1 and 2).
