Abstract

The curvature of a so-called "shot" roll for winders, windups, reels or the like is changed by adjustment of the amount of roll filling and of the distance between holders 22, 24 in which the opposite ends of the roll are rotatably supported. The roll comprises a tube 12, of plastics, e.g. nylon, with or without a P.T.F.E. coating, or thin steel or aluminium, partly or fully filled with shot, liquid or granular substance. Shafts 14, 16 secured, by screws, in opposite ends of the tube 12 are rotatably supported, by bearings 18, 20, in the holders 22, 24 in turn supported for vertical pivotal movement by mounts 26, 28. The mount 28 is fixed in a vertical support 36 whereas the mount 26 is axially slidable in a vertical support 34 by a handwheel 44 fast with a shaft 46 threaded in the mount 26. The shaft 14 is provided with closable radial and axial passages (64), (62) through which the roll filling is introduced. A roll driving belt pulley 48 is secured by a screw to the shaft 16.
