Abstract

In break-spinning, the fibres are doffed from the surface of a separating-member by an edge of the rotary spinning-chamber. In Fig. 1, the separating -member comprises a rotating roller 2 with needles on its surface which is supplied with sliver fed through a funnel 7 by a rotating roller 5.The rollers and the funnel are in a block 9, the clearance between the roller 2 and the adjacent surface 23 of the block in the region between the roller 5 and the take-off point of the fibres, which constitutes a fibre-passage 25 first decreasing and then increasing. Fixed to the top of the block is a cover 10 in which a spinning-chamber 11 is mounted for rotation. This has ventilating- apertures 12, a collecting surface 13 and a sliding surface 14, a shank 16 with a driving pulley 17 and a withdrawing tube 18 for the yarn. The open end of the chamber rotates in a groove in the block formed by a projecting part 27 at the fibre take-off point, the groove merges with the fibre-passage 25 and the edge 15 of the spinning chamber lies close to the surface of the combing-roller and acts to doff the fibres with the assistance of the reduced pressure existing inside the chamber. The radial distance of the edge 24 of the projection 27 from the rotational axis of the chamber is only slightly smaller from that of the edge 15. The air drawn out of the chamber centrifugally escapes from the cover 10 through a channel 21 in Fig. 2 not shown the cover is so constructed that the air is conducted to a point behind the edge 15 at the doffing point to assist the doffing action.
