Abstract
A process for reforming with water vapor a hydrocarbon fraction boiling below 220º C, comprising contacting said fraction in the presence of water vapor at elevated temperatures within the range of about 200º C to 1000º C and at a pressure within the range of approximately from 0 to 50 atmospheres gauge with a catalyst consisting essentially of a mixture comprised between 5 and 50% by weight, calculated in relation to the metal, of a composition selected from the group consisting of metallic nickel and nickel oxide, no more of 10% by weight calculated in relation to the metal and, the percentage being based on the nickel weight of an activating component selected from the group consisting of copper-chromium and copper-chromium-manganese in the form of its oxides, and a material of inorganic oxide support, the water vapor ratio being between 1 and 7 moles of water vapor per carbon atom in the hydrocarbons.
