Abstract
A tool for removing for replacement purposes a long hollow flexible needle A used for taking samples of radio-active liquid, comprises a tubular body 1, 2, 3 enclosing a rod 4 having jaws 9 at its lower end. The needle A normally rests with its head B in a support C and is removed by lowering the tool so that the jaws 9 come below a flange b on the head and then raising the rod 4 by a knob 5. The jaws close due to the engagement of ribs 13 with the interior of body part 1 and the needle head is lifted into a cylindrical casing R. The flexible part of the needle which may be several metres long is wound up within the casing R by four winding pegs 28 (Figs. 6-8, not shown) mounted on a rotary plate 29 which is advanced to the left from the Fig. 2 position by sliding a shaft 30 controlled by a knob 31, the jaws 9 being released before commencement of the winding by a further upward movement of the knob 5. After the needle has been wound by rotating the shaft 30 by the knob 31, the pegs 28 are retracted by moving the shaft to its original position as shown. The casing R is ejected by first removing a cover-plate 27 and then advancing the end 45 of a screw 42 by rotating a knob 44, the screw end abutting a removable cover-plate 26 situated adjacent one end face of the casing.
