Abstract

In a shovel excavator luffing movements of a boom relative the self-propelled chassis-mounted turntable on which it is mounted is controlled by a single acting jack having a throttle valve for retarding free fall of the boom when the jack is vented. The dipper carrying arm pivotally mounted on the boom is moved relative to the boom by a single acting jack extending between the boom and the arm. Pivotal movement of the shovel relative to the arm is controlled by a double-acting ram pivoted to the turntable structure and to a bell crank lever pivoted on the pivotal axis of the arm and the boom. The bell crank lever is connected by a link to a further bell crank lever pivoted on the arm and connected to the shovel by a further link.
