Abstract
A process for preparing a modified polypropylene comprising polymerizing propylene by contacting a highly stereospecific polymerization catalyst under appropriate polymerization conditions to produce a highly crystalline polypropylene until the concentration of the polymer in the reaction mixture is at least about 90% of the desired final concentration, continue the polymerization in the presence of just enough ethylene to provide the desired amount of combined ethylene comprised between 2 and 8% based on the final polymer, while maintaining the concentration of propylene in excess of that of ethylene until the added ethylene has been polymerized, and then interrupt the polymerization reaction and recover the modified polypropylene.
