Abstract
An aqueous emulsion polymerization process for the production of synthetic rubber, characterized in that water, a modifier and a reactive monomer material to be polymerized are introduced, together with a fatty acid to be converted into a soap emulsifier, in the zone of said polymerization, the resulting mixture is stirred to dissolve said fatty acid and said modifier in said monomer material, an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide is introduced into the resulting mixture containing fatty acid in an amount which reacts with said fatty acid to form said soap and to make that the resulting soap-containing mixture has a ph of 9 to 12, the resulting mixture containing hydroxide is stirred under temperature conditions to form said soap, whereby said emulsion is formed, and any remaining ingredients are mixed with the emulsion so formed.
