Abstract

Apparatus for using ultrasound to measure the wall thickness of pipework filled with water serving as a transmission medium for ultrasound, the apparatus being constituted by a vehicle (1) including, at its front end, means (2) for fixing to a traction cable connected to a winch, two guide means (3, 4) positioned respectively at the front and at the rear of the vehicle (1), a waterproof casing (5) positioned between the guide means (3) and (4) and housing a motor (6), and an ultrasound probe (7) situated at the rear end of the vehicle (1) and connected to an electrical signal transmitter-receiver outside the vehicle (1), said probe (7) being stationary, and directly connected to said electrical signal transmitter-receiver by a coaxial cable (13) and transmitting incident and reflected ultrasound waves via a rotary 45 DEG mirror (11) driven by the motor (6).
