Abstract

Improvements made to the femoral and pelvis components of the hip prosthesis. The femoral component of a hip prosthesis is constructed of a metal piece that is introduced into the femur (6), has a tapered collar (1) and is finished off with a prosthetic head (4) that moves on the socket of the prosthesis or on the pelvis proper.The improvements consist in forming a live tissue barrier around part of the femur and the area surrounding the implant, thus stopping the loosened particles resulting from wear and tear within the articulation from getting inside the femur, which could have adverse effects. The neck (1) of the femoral component (2) has an unpolished perimetrical band (3) with a biocompatible covering that facilitates femoral tissue adhesion and seals access to the inside of the femur. The collar (8) can also be used by attaching a ring (9) - with the free edge adjusted on the outside of the femur - to the neck (1), or with an articulated capsule (14) situated between the neck (1) and the socket (16).
