Abstract

This safety cam system is comprised of the following components: a toothed wheel (1), integral with shaft (2) and cam (3), meshing with the front steering rack and forcing the assembly (1-2-3) to turn when said steering is operated. The inner side of the cam (3) has a groove into which a finger (4) is inserted, said finger being connected to the inner part of the control valve (5) of the rear wheel steering system, the outer part of the control valve (5) being fixed to the rear steering shaft. Since the finger (4) of the control valve (5) cannot come out of the groove of the cam, its lateral movement is limited, and so is the steering of the rear wheels. By suitably shaping the groove (3) of the cam it is possible, for each steering angle of the steering wheel, to limit the steering angle of the rear wheels to a predetermined value in the same direction as the front wheels, and to another predetermined value in the opposite direction.
