Abstract

Process for obtaining an alkaline salt of omeprazole of formula I < IMAGE > (M=Li, Na or K), in which omeprazole is caused to react with an alkaline salt of an active methylene of formula [Z - CH - Z'] M+ where Z and Z' are strong acceptor groups, which may or may not be the same, and M has the meaning indicated above. These salts have a lesser degree of decomposition and greater solubility than omeprazole, which is a very effective drug for the treatment of gastric ulcers.
