Abstract

Carbon blacks having a wide aggregate size distribution are prepared by injecting a non-preatomised coherent stream of liquid feed stock transversely into the hot combustion gas stream of a modular carbon black forming process at two separate locations, up to 80% of the total feedstock being introduced into the gas stream prior to the print where maximum velocity of the gas stream is reached and upstream of which no further increase of the CSBP of the resultant carbon black caused by injecting feedstock into the gas stream prior to the point at which it has reached maximum velocity, is observed.
