Abstract

4-(8-chloro 5,6-dihydro 11H-benzo(5,6)cyclohepta (1,2-b) pyridin-11-yl 11-ol) piperidine 1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester of formula (II), for use as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent, and as an intermediate for prep. of other therapeutic substances, esp. anti-histamine H1 agents, is made by reacting the N-methyl cpd. of formula (I) with ethyl chloroformate in molar ratio of 1:1 to 1:5, in an inert solvent at 40 deg C up to reflux temp., opt. in presence of an amine, pref. a tert. amine.
