Abstract
Adsorbent for the retention of SO2 in the gas phase at low temperature, process for preparing it and applications The adsorbent comprises a calcium oxide dispersed on activated carbon having a specific surface area of approximately 600 m2/g, the Ca content being between 0.5 and 30%. The process comprises a first treatment of the activated carbon with a solution of a calcium salt by ion exchange or impregnation, followed by a second, thermal treatment to convert the calcium salt into its oxide supported on activated carbon by heating in an electric furnace for 2 to 45 minutes at 673-1200 degree K. The adsorbent has major environmental applications as a result of its ability to retain SO2 in the gas phase originating from any emission source.
