Abstract

Improvements in trans podiatry, vertebral fixing systems and a device to do it. The invention consists of using a much shorter screw (1) than traditionally used, applied to a 'silastic' peg or some other biocompatible, mechanical polymer. The peg is introduced in the pedicel passing slightly above its length. The system can be used on osteoporosis patients where the vertebral body bone joint density is much less.< IMAGE >The attachment device has a screw (1) made of an alloy and a plug (2) which has biochemical compatibility. On the screw is a threaded part (3) which is limited by a radial shoulder (4). The plug has a radial widening (5) to prevent it being inserted too far and there is a thread (6) on the shank of the plug. The plug also has longitudinally extending slits (7) which assist in its expansion. The widened part (5) of the plug is hexagonal in shape to allow use of a screw driver.
