A brush assembly and brush holder, comprising (a) a fastener having at least two elements, said elements being secured together forming an angle between about 45º and about 90º, with at least one of said elements having a protruding segment extending from there, and having means capable of moving said segment substantially flush with the surface of said element when applied under pressure to said segment, and of releasing said segment when the pressure ceases, and having a cross-sectional area designed to slide within a mating groove in a brush, so that said member can be retained therein; and (b) a carbonaceous brush having a groove in the one of its side walls to receive the element having said protruding segment and having a recess in said side wall inside said groove, so that when said fastener is located inside said groove the protruding segment will be introduced, within said recess and will firmly secure said fastener in said brush.
