Die Kontakte der aus dem Stand der Technik bekannten Steckverbinder sind überwiegend aus Draht hergestellt. Werden auf dem entsprechenden Gegenstück zum Steckverbinder ebenfalls Drähte für die Kontaktfläche verwendet, so kommt es häufig zu Kontaktschwierigkeiten, da häufig lediglich ein Punktkontakt zu Stande kommt. Diese Kontaktschwierigkeiten sind eine der Ursachen für Reflektionen.
Versuche diesen Effekt durch Kontaktflächen zu begegnen führten in der Vergangenheit jedoch immer zu erhöhtem Nahnebensprechen.
