Definitions

  • the present invention generally relates to threshold bars and other border elements of floor or wall coverings.
  • Threshold bars are floor-standing elements of residential, office or industrial premises at junctions of two different floor coverings or levels.
  • a threshold bar is both functional and aesthetic. It protects the edges of adjacent floor coverings and masks their irregularities while constituting a clean and straight line of separation.
  • edge stops are used between the boundary of a floor covering and a wall also for functional and / or aesthetic reasons. For example, when the flooring is a parquet, it is desirable to leave a day between the limit of the floor and the wall to avoid problems of expansion. The edge stop hides the day and protects the liner edge.
  • Border elements are also used against walls, for example skirting board or wall cover separating rod.
  • the figure 1 is a partial sectional view in perspective of a known threshold bar 2, called the sliding threshold bar, in a situation on a floor 11 on which are deposited unequal height coatings, respectively 12 and 13, for example a carpet and a tile.
  • the threshold bar 2 has an apparent upper part slightly curved and possibly itself painted or covered totally or partially with a material to give it any desired aesthetic appearance.
  • the lower part of the bar 2 comprises ribs 21 and 22 projecting defining between them and with the lower part 23 of the bar 2 a longitudinal slide 24. In this slide can be inserted the head 31 of a nail 32. This nail is intended to be driven into a hole formed in the ground 11 in which has previously been introduced or not an ankle 33.
  • the figure 2 is a perspective view of a nail 3 illustrating a form of nail head particularly well adapted to the slide 24 of the bar 2.
  • This head 31 has the shape of a half-cylinder perpendicular to a rod 32 of the nail and flattened on the opposite side of this rod.
  • This half-cylinder 31 forms a slider able to be slid into the slide 24.
  • This slightly elongated shape of the sliders 31 makes it possible to avoid a rotation of the nail heads and thus of the nail rods 3 in a plane passing through the axis longitudinal of the slide. Thus, the rods can not lie in the slide during the driving phase.
  • the nail 3 is a "pin-peg" of plastic provided with fins 33 anti-tearing, intended to be driven directly into a hole in the ground.
  • the system of Figures 1 and 2 has the advantage of simplicity of installation. Indeed, it is sufficient to prepare holes in alignment in the ground without it being necessary for them to have rigorous spacings between them.
  • a number of nails 3 corresponding to the number of holes is placed in the slide, after which the nails are set up by sliding in front of the corresponding holes and then the bar is pressed, driving the nails. This depression can be done simply by walking on the bar.
  • the lower part 23 of the slideway is preferably in the form of a V defining a support stop 25 ( figure 1 ) coming substantially to bear in the center of the upper flat face of the head 31 of the nail 3.
  • the space between the lips opposite the ribs 21 and 22 is greater than the diameter of the rod 32 of the nail 3.
  • the angle of the V defining the bearing stop 25 is preferably chosen so that when the bar of threshold is in a position of extreme inclination, it is simultaneously a support of the nail rod against one of the lips of the ribs 21, 22 and the upper half of the nail head against one of the blanks V.
  • a threshold bar as illustrated by the figure 1 is described in the European patent 0 588 734 of the plaintiff.
  • sliding threshold bars which define, in their lower face, a slide adapted to a nail-screw or nail-pin head.
  • the nail heads may have any desired cylindrical shape, for example circular cylinders.
  • the rods of the nails may be threaded rods.
  • the figure 3 is a partial perspective view of another threshold bar, called glued threshold bar.
  • the threshold bar 4 is, as for the threshold bar 2 of the figure 1 , intended to mask the line of separation between two coatings 13 and 12 (for example of unequal height).
  • the external appearance of the threshold bar 4 is similar to that of the threshold bar 2 and therefore comprises an upper part slightly curved and possibly itself painted or covered with a material to give it any desired aesthetic appearance.
  • the fixing of the threshold bar 4 is done by gluing. For this, two beads 41 and 42 of adhesive are predisposed on the lower face of the bar 4 near its longitudinal edges. Before laying, these cords are generally protected by a peelable paper tape that the user removes to apply the threshold bar.
  • glue beads generate an extra thickness that affects the aesthetics.
  • glue beads tend to flow, resulting in a shift of the threshold bar or a cohesive failure of the adhesive.
  • Solutions are also known consisting in applying a double-sided adhesive under a threshold bar for fixing it. Such a solution is, however, applicable only to plane threshold bars. Indeed, such an adhesive strip does not adhere if it is placed under a threshold bar of variable height, for example curved. Therefore, she is not usable for bars that can adapt to uneven or variable height coatings.
  • one of the difficulties is to provide an upper surface having an optimized appearance, adapted to the colors of the coverings or the part.
  • threshold bars and edge stops must develop several types of structure, each of which includes a large number of presentations in various colors, aspects and materials, resulting in high manufacturing costs. In addition, this leads to storage difficulties for distributors and sellers.
  • the document DE-A-10 2004 026754 discloses a pedestal base for mounting against a wall.
  • the document GB-A-1,328,807 discloses an elongate profile capable of receiving a border element and extending all along this edge member.
  • the document WO-2006/116780 describes a profile capable of receiving the end of a wing of a border element, the profile extending all along the edge to achieve.
  • the document DE-A-44 32 098 describes a profile for receiving a border profile.
  • the document GB-A-2,425,785 discloses an assembly system for a border element consisting of a first section placed in the corner of the wall and a second profile attached to the first section, the first profile forming in section a square against the faces of which can be glued wings of the second profile also in square section.
  • An object of an embodiment of the present invention is to provide a threshold bar or other edge element to be glued which overcomes all or part of the disadvantages of the usual edge elements.
  • An object of an embodiment of the present invention is to provide a mixed system for using the same upper part both in edge stop and threshold bar.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a system that can be used with coatings of different heights.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a system that can be glued in a simple and reliable manner.
  • At least the first jaw of each wedge is elastically deformable to temporarily close the head at least in the vicinity of its opening.
  • the second jaw of each shim is longer than the first and defines, by its free end, a cutaway intended to cooperate with a lower face of the profile.
  • the foot of each wedge comprises, in its height, at least one rupture zone.
  • each shim is obtained in one piece of plastic material.
  • each adhesive portion consists of a first adhesive strip extending longitudinally on the lower face of the profile, each first strip being adhesive on its face opposite to the profile and being obtained by longitudinal folding of a sheet of which a second strip is glued against the profile.
  • each adhesive portion consists of a lateral wing hinged to the central portion and intended to be folded beneath it, the lower faces of the wings in the folded position being adhesive.
  • the edge member further comprises, on the lower face, an open longitudinal slide.
  • top will then be used with arbitrary reference to an edge member in a horizontal position for use on a floor.
  • the figure 4 is a partial perspective view of an embodiment of a threshold bar 5 to be bonded.
  • the threshold bar 5 comprises, in this example, an upper surface 51 slightly convex and possibly painted, dyed, or totally or partially covered with a material to give it any desired aesthetic appearance. Most often the threshold bar 5 is aluminum.
  • each strip is formed of a strip 6 or single-sided adhesive sheet folded longitudinally (fold 61) so that the adhesive faces are exclusively outside the resulting V-shape.
  • An arbitrarily higher first half-band 63 of each band 6g, 6d is pre-glued on each side of the lower face of the threshold bar 5, the fold of the V directed outwards.
  • a protective film (not shown), for example a peelable paper, is preserved before laying so as to protect the adhesive from the lower half-band 62 to be fixed to the ground.
  • the strip 6 is formed of a support sheet coated with a thin film of adhesive and a protective film.
  • this adhesive sheet is folded in two and the protective film is preferably precut longitudinally to allow pre-bonding of a strip of the sheet against the underside threshold bar (preferably in the factory).
  • the strip 6 is slightly retracted relative to the edge of the bar to avoid any extra thickness.
  • the user For a threshold bar installation, the user removes the protective strips on both sides of the bar and applies it to the floor. Surprisingly, the folding of the sheet 6 gives it a spring effect, which although light is sufficient to, with the aid of the adhesive, press the free band 62 to the ground. This effect is improved if, during installation, the user gradually withdraws the protection strips longitudinally as and when laying. If necessary, the user can first glue one of the two sides and rub it, then glue the second as described above.
  • the threshold bar is glued, a pressure applied on it crushes the fold and removes any extra thickness.
  • the backing material of the adhesive film may be a sheet of paper or plastic.
  • a plastic material has the advantage of giving it additional strength and a better spring effect during installation.
  • other materials may be used, for example a metal or composite sheet.
  • the half-strips attached to the profile are an extension of a coating of its upper face. These extensions usually folded and glued against the bar are here conversely adherent on their outer face.
  • the half-band 63 of a folded strip of the type represented in FIG. figure 4 is interposed between the coating and the profile of the bar 5.
  • fold 61 (whether it is on the strip 6 or at the level of the flaps of the coating) is that it allows a relatively large thickness of adhesive from the moment when the adhesive strip or half-strip is, in section slightly off the edge of the bar. No extra thickness then remains after bonding.
  • the figure 5 is a sectional view in situ of a threshold bar to be glued of the type of that of the figure 4 , climb to edge stop.
  • the threshold bar 5 is equipped on the internal face, ribs 21 and 22 defining a slide 24 allowing mounting with nail-screw or nail-pin (3, figure 2 ).
  • This variant illustrates the possibility of producing a mixed threshold bar, glue and slide. This simplifies the distribution ranges of the threshold bars or similar edge elements. The user can choose, fix the bar through its slide, glue, or both, or use the bar 5 in stuck border border.
  • the threshold bar 5 is then glued to the edge of a floor covering 12 along a wall 15.
  • point shims 9 are distributed in the length of the threshold bar, along the wall 15 to prevent it from tilting in the gap 17 between the edge of the floor covering 12 and the wall 15.
  • the figure 6 is a perspective view of a wedge 9 of the system of the figure 5 .
  • a shim 9 has a foot 92 for resting on the ground and a head 94 defining a clamp open upwards.
  • the vertical opening of the clip forms a slot 942 for receiving the free portion 62 of the adhesive strip 6d of the bar 5.
  • the foot 92 is preferably cut to different heights to accommodate different heights of flooring. For example, it comprises zones of lesser thickness (for example horizontal grooves 922 of embrittlement), distributed in the height of the foot and constituting breakable rupture zones at desired heights. Alternatively, the foot 92 will include height marks simplifying the cutting of this portion for its adjustment to the thickness of a coating.
  • the length (in the direction of the profile) of the shim 9 is, for example, a few centimeters. Its thickness is preferably less than two centimeters, for example a value between 0.8 and 1.4 cm, to allow mounting over wide ranges of gaps between the liner edge and wall.
  • the shims 9 are preferably obtained by molding or injection of plastic material.
  • the figure 7 is a perspective view illustrating the establishment of a border stop system using the threshold bar of the figure 4 and shims 9 as represented in figure 6 .
  • the threshold bar 5 is represented in transparency with its dashed outlines.
  • the implementation of the border stop is carried out as follows.
  • the operator removes the protective sheet from portion 62 of one of the strips (e.g., 6d) of the threshold bar. Then, it positions several shims 9, disjointly, preferably at regular intervals. For this, it engages the adhesive tape 62 in the slot of the head of the hold and exerts pressure on the arms or jaws of the head.
  • the outer jaw 944 (intended to be plated on the wall) is thinner than the inner jaw 946. This clings the adhesive face of the portion 62 against the inner face of the outer jaw 944.
  • the operator places it in place by resting the shims on the ground 11 and plating (by sticking) the adhesive portion 62 located between the wedges 9 against the wall 15.
  • This support of the adhesive can be performed by hand or with a spatula or a marbling tool.
  • the wedges 9 are thus held against the wall by gluing the rest of the band 6d.
  • the threshold bar is folded against the floor covering (by removing the protective film) where its band 6g ensures the bonding.
  • Wedge 9 prevents the threshold bar from tipping in the gap 17 between the edge of the liner and the wall.
  • the two Jaws 944 and 946 are of different heights and function of the curvature of the threshold bar so that the free end of the inner jaw 946 is in contact with the inner face of the bar.
  • the free end of the inner jaw 946 ends in bevel (cutaway) directed towards the wall. This improves the hold of the shim 9 by imparting an anti-tilt effect.
  • the slide rests ( figure 5 ) or not on the floor covering 12 according to the importance of the gap 17 between the edge of the coating and the wall 15 and the importance of the bulge of the bar.
  • the figure 8 is a sectional view in situ of another embodiment of threshold bar 5 'to be glued, mounted as an edge element by means of wedges 9.
  • the threshold bar 5 ' is a one-piece profile defining, in section, a central portion 64 and two lateral wings 7 hinged to this central portion.
  • the central portion 64 has, in this example, an upper surface slightly convex and possibly painted, dyed, or totally or partially covered with a material to give it any desired aesthetic appearance.
  • the wings 7 are intended to be folded under the central portion 64 by resting by their lower faces (in folded position) on the floor or wall coverings. Each wing 7 is adhesive by this lower face. For example, unrepresented adhesive strands are reported on these bonding faces by being temporarily protected by a film. In another example, double-sided adhesive strips 8 are attached to the lower faces of the wings 7. A protective strip, for example a paper or peelable film not shown, is preserved before laying so as to protect the adhesive 8 before fixing of the threshold bar.
  • a hinge connecting portion 65 connects each flange 7 to the central portion 64.
  • this connecting portion 65 forms a V directed inwards, that is to say towards the central portion when the wings are folded.
  • the thickness of the connecting portion 65 is less than that of the central portion and the wings, the thickness of the wings being preferably less than that of the central portion.
  • the threshold bar 5 is monobloc and plastic or other deformable material, for example PVC and is preferably obtained by extrusion.
  • the material constituting the one-piece threshold bar may also be composite, for example a plastic loaded with point elements (grains) of another nature (for example, sand, metal, etc.).
  • the threshold bar is metallic.
  • the threshold bar 5 is glued, a pressure applied on it crushes the hinge and eliminates any extra thickness, the thickness of the wings 7 being absorbed in the internal space defined by the convex shape of the central portion.
  • the central portion 64 then rests by its edges on the ground.
  • gluing wings allow a relatively large thickness of adhesive from the moment they are in section slightly offset from the edge of the bar. No extra thickness then remains after bonding.
