Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device for guiding a mast capable of sliding axially in another mast, a telescopic arm comprising at least two masts and such a device, and a method of guiding two masts with respect to the other by means of such a device.
  • the invention applies in particular to the telescopic arms used in aluminum production plants.
  • Aluminum is produced industrially according to the Hall-Héroult process, in electrolysis cells of alumina dissolved in an electrolyte bath.
  • the operation of an electrolysis plant requires interventions on the electrolysis cells including, in particular, the replacement of spent anodes with new anodes, the removal of liquid metal from the cells and the removal or addition of electrolyte.
  • the factories are generally equipped with service machines comprising mobile bridges that can be translated over the electrolysis cells and on which service modules can be moved.
  • the service modules carry telescopic arms extending towards the cells, the arms being equipped, at their lower end, with various handling and intervention devices. These organs may be tools such as shovels, pliers, etc.
  • the telescopic arms comprise at least one mast fixed to the service module and a movable mast carrying the handling and intervention member, sliding axially in the first mast or around it. It is necessary to provide a guide of the masts relative to each other and a maintenance in the desired position, so that the handling member and intervention is positioned satisfactorily with respect to the electrolysis cell, depending on the intervention to be performed.
  • this guidance is obtained by rolling steel rollers or treated cast iron associated with one of the masts on welded steel rails or fixed by bolting or on the other mast mast. But, if the guiding efforts are relatively low in normal operation, much greater efforts may result from improper implementation of service machines. In order to resist these accidental forces, it is necessary to provide large rollers, and the rails must be made of a very strong steel to prevent damage by the rollers.
  • This first embodiment is reliable, but cumbersome and expensive.
  • this guidance is obtained by sliding skids rubbing material attached to one of the masts on welded steel rails or fixed by bolting or on the other mast mast.
  • the rails must be made of heavy duty steel to limit wear.
  • This second embodiment makes it possible to withstand significant efforts with a small footprint, thanks to the use of the pads.
  • the skates make it difficult to slide from one mast to the other, and they wear out quickly because of the aggressive and corrosive nature of the working environment, in particular due to the presence of alumina.
  • first and second embodiments mentioned above require the machining of long structures, which may exceed five meters. These structures are constituted either by the surface of the masts, which must form a satisfactory bearing surface for the rails, or by the rails themselves.
  • the present invention aims to overcome the disadvantages mentioned above.
  • the invention relates to a device for guiding a first mast having a first axis with respect to a second mast having a second axis, the second mast being intended to be mounted substantially coaxially in the first mast so as to slide in it, the guide device being intended to be fixed at one end of the first mast or the second mast, and to cooperate with a contact zone located on the outer face of the second mast or on the inner face of the first mast, respectively, and comprising at least one guide unit arranged to cooperate with a contact zone of the second mast or the first mast, respectively, the unit having a direction of thrust substantially orthogonal to the contact zone with which it is intended to cooperate.
  • the device allows a satisfactory guidance of the first mast relative to the second mast, both in normal operation when the efforts are weak, via the rollers, and in cases where exceptional efforts are exerted on the device.
  • the support is no longer provided by the rollers alone but also by the pads, which allows a significant tightening without the need to resort to large rollers, especially materials. resistant or heavy machining, and without causing deterioration of the mast area in contact with the roller.
  • the risk of deterioration being considerably reduced, the availability of the service module which carries the telescopic arms and its service life are increased.
  • front and rear are defined relative to the direction of thrust, the front term designating the direction directed towards the mast on which the roller and / or the skid is based, the rear term corresponding to the opposite direction.
  • the device comprises elastic return means capable of exerting a force substantially parallel to the thrust direction, said elastic return means being arranged so that, when the axis of the roller is in the first position, they may be compressed to allow movement of the roller axis to the second position. Pre-compression means may also be provided so that, when the axis of the roller is in the first position, the elastic return means are compressed and thus urge the axis of the roller forward. This results in better guidance of the mast.
  • the axis of the roller may be integral with a lever pivotally mounted about a fixed axis relative to the pad and substantially parallel to the axis of the roller.
  • a portion of the elastic return means bears on an area of the lever, the axis of the roller being located between the axis of pivoting of the lever and said zone of the lever.
