Durch die Betätigung des Schaltelements 15 wird durch eine elektromechanische Verbindung ein Signal an die Steuer- und Regelungselektronik 16 abgegeben, die den Elektromotor ansteuert. Durch die Aktivierung des Elektromotors führt die dem Elektromotor zugeordnete Antriebswelle eine Drehbewegung durch, so dass das an der Antriebswelle angeordnete Zahnrad 8 rotiert. Da das Zahnrad 8 im Eingriff mit der Zahnstange 9 ist, welche an der Antriebswelle 19 des Lagerungsbehälters 6, 6' befestigt ist, wird der Lagerungsbehälter 6, 6' aus dem Lagerungsbehälter heraus bewegt. Wenn der Lagerungsbehälter 6, 6' wieder vollständig im Behandlungsraum 4 hineinbewegt wird, wird der Elektromotor wieder von der Steuer- und Regelungselektronik angesteuert und beendet die Bewegung des Lagerungsbehälters 6, 6'. Der Antrieb ist so ausgelegt, dass auch bei schwer zu reinigendem Gut der Lagerungsbehälter 6, 6' in den Behandlungsraum hineinbewegt und herausbewegt werden kann. Falls der Benutzer den Lagerungsbehälter 6, 6' aus der Geschirrspülmaschine 1 entfernen möchte, so kann der Benutzer über das Schaltelement 15 die Antriebswelle 19 verschieben, um das Zahnrad 8 und die Zahnstange 9 außer Eingriff zu bringen.
